WSSBC Letter of Concern regarding East Kootenays Solar Farm Investigative Phase Engagement

Author: Kyle Stelter | Nov 30, 2023

The Wild Sheep Society of British Columbia is deeply concerned about Enterprise Renewable (2017) Ltd, Windpower – Investigative Phase application specifically labelled Crown Land File #4406427.  Numerous polygons have been designated for consideration in the Investigative Phase, which, if solar farms were approved, would ultimately lead to wide-spread solar panel placement in high-value habitat for wild sheep, other ungulates and multiple Species at Risk.  The Wild Sheep Society of BC is opposed to this Investigative Stage and any other development of high value habitat in the heart of ungulate winter range. There is a short window for engagement at https://comment.nrs.gov.bc.ca/applications?id=6529b28b646c73002270b4ab#details Engagement closes on December 2, 2023.  Please take time to complete this engagement piece.  Feel free to utilize the points WSSBC has raised in the letter attached. Please note that the title of the engagement refers to Windpower, however the issue relates to Solar Farms.  This is how the engagement piece is presented.  The issue is relating to solar panels placement in high value habitat for wildlife including Bighorn Sheep.
