October 13, 2015 – Representatives from the Wild Sheep Society of BC and the BC Wildlife Federation met with the Minister of Agriculture Norm Letnick to discuss and update on wild/domestic sheep contact and disease transmission within BC. The discussion focused on the development of a “Bighorn Friendly Lamb” marketing initiative within the domestic sheep industry as an incentive to protect our wild herds. Also, we can look forward to an upcoming discussion paper from the Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resources on the options available to move forward with legislation to protect wild sheep which will lead to consultation and finally implementation. This is a huge step in disease mitigation!
